While attending the 29th annual conference of Somos El Futuro, on the morning of the 20th we held a legislative breakfast were we outlined HREC’s agenda to local and state officials.
During the event concern was raised over the lack of Hispanic contractors that respond to MWBE events. Even more perplexing to the officials was the inability or obstacles many Hispanic contractors face when trying to obtain bonding.
Thankfully HREC is well positioned to assist contractors with these issues. First, it is our intent to unite Hispanic contractors under one organization to ensure their voices are heard, their issues are addressed and that they enjoy the advantages that come with being a small business owner: wealth creation.
Second, we have developed our own bonding program to respond to the unique needs of the Hispanic contractor. The primary obstacle impeding Hispanic contractors from obtaining bonding is timing. In order to obtain a bond, a company needs to begin the process with much forethought and deliberation. Projects must be carefully selected to ensure profitability and the financials must reflect a history of proper planning. The process is complex, however with the program we have put together it is possible to obtain bonding for a wide array of contractors.
Lastly awareness, awareness, awareness. We will look to build awareness of our organization and the many benefits that come with it. In the future our members will be able to enjoy discounts with certain suppliers and enjoy other competitive advantages, that have kept them from being able to compete with larger firms.
Our goal is to help our contractors to get to the next level of the business owner’s journey.
My name is Rodrigo Mora, I’m the Chairman of HREC, I strongly encourage you to join the best is yet to come.“
